Background
BACKGROUND
The School of Education of the University of Crete was established in 1995 by the Presidential Decree 2/1995 (Government Gazette 1/10.1.1995, Vol.) The Department of Primary Education (P.T.D.E.) and the Department of Pre-school Education (P.T.P.E.) were incorporated into it.
Both of these Departments were already functioning as independent departments in accordance with Article 46, para. 1 of Law 1268/1982 and Decree 320/1983. Of these, the P.T.D.E. started operating from the academic year 1984-85 and the P.T.P.E. from the academic year 1987-88.
From its establishment until today, the School has operated in accordance with Article 10 of Law 1268/1982 and Article 6 of the Internal Regulations of the University of Crete (Ministerial Decision F1/375/B1/696/24.11.2000, Government Gazette 1525/14.12.2000, Vol.B) and subsequently in accordance with Law 4485/2017, Articles 16 - 19.
The establishment of the School was followed by the election of the first Dean and the formation of the General Assembly. The Dean's Office of the Faculty consists of: the Dean, the President and the Directors of the Departments of the Faculty, the President and three representatives of the faculty of the Faculty, one representative of the members of the Faculty's H.D.I.P., H.E.P.P. and H.T.E.P., one representative of the undergraduate students, one representative of the faculty members, one representative of the undergraduate students and one representative of the postgraduate students.
The main task of the Dean's Office is the coordination of the teaching, research, educational and scientific activities of the two Departments, especially those which, due to their nature, do not contradict the autonomous operation of each Department. To this end, regular meetings of the Dean's Office are held, views are exchanged and issues of immediate priority are resolved. Similarly, following a joint opinion of its members, issues concerning the operation of the School are forwarded to the Rectorate. The purpose of the School, which is determined by the individual aims of its two Departments, is to promote the sciences of education, the development of teaching and research and the scientific and professional training of the student, tomorrow's teacher and kindergarten teacher.
